Una-Sana Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina Plans to Announce a Public Call for a 90 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant
/22nd March 2021, by Renewable Market Watch™/
The Ministry of Economy of Una-Sana Canton has received the consent of the Municipal Council of Bosanski Petrovac to initiate the procedure of granting a concession in the area of this municipality for solar electricity production. This was confirmed by the minister Nijaz Kadirić, emphasizing that this is a project for the construction of the largest solar park in the whole of BiH.
"The value of the total investment exceeds BAM 100 million (EUR 50 million), and all production would be exported. We will amend the Law on Concessions to fully comply with legal obligations in the procedure of awarding this concession, and an international public invitation will be issued," Kadiric pointed out. According to him, there has long been interest from reputable investors who have addressed the Government of the USC on several occasions. "We have set ourselves a framework to complete all the work this year, including the very beginning of fieldwork," Kadiric said.
"The municipality of Bosanski Petrovac has high hopes for the announced projects of building a solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant," confirmed Mahmut Jukic, the mayor of the municipality, which is one of the least developed in Una-Sana Canton. According to him, local authorities welcome such projects and will provide all necessary assistance and support in their implementation.
"It is true that the Government of the KJA initiated activities related to the construction of a large solar park at the Bjelajski Vaganac site, where research was conducted and asked the Municipal Council to give its consent to the concession procedure to investors. It is about 150 hectares of land. The solar photovoltaic park that will be built shall have a capacity of 90 megawatts and would be the largest in the country, "Jukic said. According to him, the realization of such a large-scale solar project would have multiple positive economic effects on this local community, which is among the most underdeveloped in Una-Sana Canton.
Solar power plants are one of the best resources amidst the fight against climate change. Solar energy is an available, accessible and renewable option that helps reduce carbon emissions across the globe. Every kWh of clean energy is important for the people and our planet, and we need as many as we can get. The goal is, therefore, not to provide energy but to provide clean energy.
