During the process of assessment the viability of the area for a wind farm, data is collected from environmental consultants to map the site both for engineering purposes and for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA). The collection of this data is an important step in the project to get a good understanding of the site and its environmental and socio-economic importance in order to assess the potential impacts of the project. The information will also help to determine the design of the proposed wind farm. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the first big hurdle in the permitting process of a wind farm.
On-shore and off-shore ecological surveys have been undertaken to identify the location of birds, habitats and species. During the surveys on-shore and off the shore, usually is collected two years of data on bird activity. This data was collected from site visits by environmental consultants by car (SUV) based for on-shore wind farms and by boat-based and aerial surveys for off-shore wind farms.
The survey data collected is used in conjunction with other existing data to establish the ecology of the area. An Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will then be completed. This will evaluate the sensitivity of the environment to any potential effects from the construction, operation and decommissioning of the proposed wind farm development.
Drones (UAVs) inevitably will take place in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process according the recently published report Drones in Wind Power Industry Global Market Outlook 2016 ÷ 2025. Observing and counting of birds, habitats and species large areas and on off-road terrains or off-shore wind farms need a lot of skilled environmental engineers. Sometimes environmentalists tend to overestimate existing birds and habitats, which could be avoided with certified recording of pictures and video from drones (UAVs). In this respect drones (UAVs) will save a lot human resource and time in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process of wind farms.
With 97 charts, maps, tables and figures, together with competitive landscape of 50 key companies investigated and overview of drone (UAV) flight regulations in 44 countries in 6 world regions, the report Drones in Wind Power Industry Global Market Outlook 2016 ÷ 2025 gives you a perfect visual breakdown of this market.
