Today, we are delighted to announce Renewable Market Watch™ will participate in the IRENA Innovation Week, which brings together leaders, experts, industry representatives, academics and policymakers to discuss cutting-edge innovations that can support and accelerate the global energy transition. In 2023, the event will build on previous editions in 2016 and 2018, which examined the decarbonisation of power systems and the integration of variable renewable energy, and the 2020 edition (held virtually) that discussed prospects for decarbonising end-use sectors. Innovation Week 2023 will continue this theme, with a view to expanding shared knowledge on Renewable solutions to decarbonise end-use sectors.

In particular, discussions will highlight tangible solutions to decarbonise energy-intensive sectors such as transportation, buildings and industry using direct and indirect electrification, whilst also offering access to a unique and diverse network of experts, industry leaders and decision-makers from IRENA’s 168 Members. The insights shared during IRENA Innovation Week will serve to identify priority actions to fully unlock the potential of renewable energy applications in end-use sectors and to inform the Agency’s recommendations and advice to its Members and the wider community.

The main programme of the event is as follows:

  • Day 1: Direct Electrification (Renewable-powered Solutions) - 25 September
  • Day 2: Indirect Electrification (Decarbonising Hard-to-abate Sectors) - 26 September
  • Day 3: Innovation Sessions & Workshops - 27 September
  • Day 4: Innovation Sessions & Workshops - 28 September

Among the key speakers at the event are:

Francesco La Camera (DIRECTOR-GENERAL, IRENA), Kadri Simson (EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER FOR ENERGY), Amani Abou-Zeid (AFRICAN UNION COMMISSIONER, INFRASTRUCTURE, ENERGY AND ICT), Philippe Henry (VICE PRESIDENT AND MINISTER OF CLIMATE, ENERGY, MOBILITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE; WALLOON), and many others.
