ECOWEB is a smart and free online platform which gathers over 3.000 EU-funded eco-innovations, including technologies, applications, products, patents, processes and other solutions. It is a new tool that brings research to realization. It aims to increase the development and uptake of eco-innovations, to bridge the gap between businesses and research.

The Coordinator of the ECOWEB project Georg Melzer says: “Take-up of EU funded research has always been a challenge. ECOWEB will actively promote top EU research and make it visible. Knowledge that has been locked away in separate websites will be pushed through existing networks and turned into products”.Therefore, ECOWEB presents up-to-date information on eco-innovations in a user-friendly way and provides contact data of the project partners.

In line with the EU2020 strategy to support SMEs, ECOWEB has been customized for European SMEs to find up-to-date information highlights on European eco-innovations. The information on eco-innovations can be filtered by topic, outcome, status, funding programme or partners involved, among other filtering options. There is a "Guided Search" tool to help users find the eco-innovations that best suits their needs or interests. Other services allow users to obtain the latest news and updates, share interesting eco-innovations and Eco-innovation boxes (web widgets).

In its first three months online (April-June 2013), the ECOWEB beta version has already received more than 8.700 unique visitors with a 20% return rate of visitors. The participants of the prototype usability tests have described ECOWEB as useful, organised and fast.

Ilko Iliev, CEO of Inea Consulting Ltd., SME user of ECOWEB, comments: “Our personal impression was very positive when we saw ECOWEB for the first time, especially because of the fact that we found the exact information we looked for right away. We successfully found innovations related to second generation fuels based on “Algae-to-oil” technology for our customer. The benefits of ECOWEB are that we can find very well selected and detailed information about eco-innovations through a single source, and to find contacts of organizations or projects related to these innovations.”

Since July 2013, the platform is finalized and fully operational. The platform will be online at least until 2016 with continuously up-to-date information.
