RES Auctions for Solar and Wind Project in Kazakhstan for 2018

On May 23, 2018, the Auction System for Renewable Energy projects was launched in Kazakhstan. According to the Auctions Schedule, Auctions for a total 1,000 MW of installed capacity are planned to be held in 2018, divided by the following types of RE power plants:

  • Solar Power Plants - 290 MW;
  • Wind Power Plants - 620 MW;
  • Hydroelectric Power Plants - 75 MW;
  • Bio Power Plants - 15 MW.

The organizer of Auctions is JSC KAZAKHSTAN ELECTRICITY AND POWER MARKET OPERATOR (KOREM).

The First Wind Auction was held for the Northern Zone (Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar and North-Kazakhstan regions) to select wind projects with a total capacity of 20 MW.

9 applications were received from Kazakhstani companies, with a single project capacity from 2 to 7 MW. The total volume of proposed capacity was 40.7 MW. The starting price for the Auction was 22.67 KZT/kWh.

Following the results of electronic Auction, the winners were determined as follows:

Zenchenko and K LP, 2 MW, at a price of 18 KZT (4,71 eurocents) /kWh
Vichy LLP, 7 MW, at a price of 18.01 KZT (4,71 eurocents) /kWh
Ventum Energy LLP, 4.95 MW, at a price of 18.99 KZT (4,97 eurocents) /kWh
EastWindEnergy LLP, 4.95 MW, at a price of 19.99 KZT (5,23 eurocents) /kWh
Ivan Zenchenko LLP, 2 MW, at a price of 22.53 (5,9 eurocents) KZT/kWh.

On May 24, 2018 the Second RE Auction was to select wind projects with a total capacity of 50 MW. 4 applications were received from Kazakhstani companies, with a single project capacity from 20 to 50 MW. The total volume of proposed capacities amounted to 127 MW.

Zhel Electric LLP won the auction with 50 MW wind energy project in Kostanay region, at a price of 17.49 KZT (4,58 eurocents) /kWh

The Next Auction is scheduled on 28 May 2018.
